How To Win a Penny Auction

Simply put, I like free things and I know how to get them. If you were to look at my hub articles they are filled with no-nonsense ways for you to get free things and / or amazing discounts. This Hub is no exception. In this hub I’m going to tell you how to get Plasma TV’s for a couple dollars, and Gift cards for pennies. It’s through a revolutionary new type of online auctions called “Penny Auctions.” And here I am going to tell you everything every other penny auctions player DOES NOT want you to know….

To start off let me tell you that I have won thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at penny auctions. Furthermore, I have been playing them since there infancy on the internet. Therefore, I know most of the “tricks of the trade” that everyone from beginners to experts use to win, and win big! But it wasn’t always filled with wins. There were some losses! However, by reading this article and sticking with my techniques you will have success.

To begin you should know what exactly a penny action is. A penny auction is different from your traditional auction in that an item starts out 100% Free and each bid adds 1 – 5 cents (depending on the site ) to the price of the item. To make things more interesting each bid adds 3 seconds to 1 minutes to the auction clock (again, depending on the site ) !

NOW LETS START WINNING!

Now that we know what penny auctions are, lets get into how to win them!

The first way to win an auction is the most basic & simple… avoid getting scammed. Penny auctions are getting more and more popular by the day. Because of that many web marketers are attempting to get into the business and make a quick buck! New sights are popping up left and right, some of which take part in scam like behavior. Some create computer programs which create fake players to bid against you, thus driving up the price. Others, recent the clocks, void your bids, and some just plan steal your money! Unless you have been around the block in the penny auction world it can tricky to distinguish the real from the scam. That being said there are a lot of real ones out there that are great! I highly recommend you start off with following sites. I’ve been using these sites for a while now and I can attest to the fact that they are legit.

Quibids <– Click on the link !

BidCatus <– Click on the link !

Step two to winning a penny auction is to pick a good username.

  • Pick an intimidating Username. This will make others think twice before bidding against you. Think about it, if you were bidding against someone who’s name was , “HappyFlowers” Vs. “ YOU_WONT_WIN ” which user would intimidate you more?…… Ya, I though so….
  • Pick a Confusing Username. Picking a name like “BID CLOSED” , “BIDDING CLOSED” or “AUCTION DOWN “ can confused some in thinking that the bid IS actually not opened.
  • Pick a VERY similar Username to someone else. This technique makes some in the auction world mad, but it does work… So, I’m going to tell it to you. Pick a username similar to someone else on the board that wins a lot & wins often. People will more then likely get you two confused with each other, or think you’re the same person and stay away from you.

Step Three to winning a penny auctions sights is to NOT bid like a new user ( a “newbie ) . That will make you an easy target for others, and thus you will lose. How to newbies bid you ask? Usually newbies are easy to pick out because they bid sporadically. They bid on 3 or 4 items at once and don’t stick to anyone item. When someone does this I know they are new, and I take a mental note of it. I know they will be one that will be easy to beat! Instead, zero in on ONE item ONLY.

Step four - DO NOT start bidding the moment you have bids. I repeat, DO NOT bid the second you have bids! Instead, watch the board for a day or two. Make notes on bid patterns. What players bid at the last minute? Who’s new to the board? Then, once you are a little familiar with thing ( And have read this entire article ), start bidding.

Step five is one that everyone SHOULD do, but not a lot of people do… Open up an excel sheet and start taking notes. Make the following list:

  • PowerBidder – These are people who seem to have endless bids and will even bid more then an item is worth.
  • Easy to beat player.
  • Newbies.
  • People to be cautious about.
  • People who have won BIG bid backs, and the dates they won them.

A list like this is a gold mine in penny auctions!

Step six to winning penny auctions is to pick a bidding technique. While I personally am partial to the “bid at all costs” technique of bidding ( explained below ), others will argue that just as long as you have a technique you will be ahead of the game. Using any of the below techniques will result in wins, the most important part is picking one you are comfortable with & STICKING WITH IT!

  • Bid At All Costs – This is pretty self explanatory… Basically with this technique you NEVER enter into an auction you are not prepared to win, even if it ends up costing you more then the item is worth. The though process is that if you bid this way other players will eventually stay away, and future wins will be easy. I can attest to that fact that this technique works!
  • Be a Sneaky Bidder – Armed with your loaded excel sheet, and this article you can also be a “Sneaky Bidder”. This type of bidders watches the board carefully. When all the power bidders are tied up in other auctions ( or not even on the board) AND the only players left are “easy to beat” players… Then. You. STRIKE!
  • Wait till the last Second – Wait till the clock has ticked down to the last second. The very last second. Then BID! This can achieve two things. For one, it can drag out the auction and the other players get bored and leave. And second, it conserves bids for you.
  • Remain on top of the auction – Every time someone bids against you, Bid Back fast! This shows the other players that “THIS ITEM IS MINE! “ and to “STAY AWAY, I’m no one to mess with! “

And lastly, my finial way to guarantee you will win is to join NEW, but reputable action sites. Newer auctions sites are not swamped with players, and competition is really low. Thus, it’s super easy to win on them! I suggest starting at auction sites that are less then 1 year old. Here are some newer sites, but are still safe ( See Webpages listed in the first paragraph of this article )

Enjoy! You are now on your way to winning a TON of Free Things!

The two biggest things you need to know to win penny auctions are : #1. The other players and #2. The board your playing on (when I say “boards” I am referring to different penny auction sites). Pick one or TWO boards to play, don’t sign up for 5 or 6 because it’s just WAY to many to keep up on and get the knack of. Personally I really enjoy Quibids, and Bidcactus. With that said, if you or someone you know runs an penny auction site I would be more then happy to try it out.

The best way to know both the board and the players is to watch. Yes, I know, It’s not to exciting. But truly you can LEARN SO MUCH by just watching. You will learn the clocks, you will learn the other players and there habits. You will learn who to bid against and not to bid against. Further more, I highly recommend you make an excel sheet (this is what I do) for each board. On this excel sheet I Three columns: One for the time of day, One with players names on them, and the other to write notes.  Players names only go into my sheet if I play them, or if they are a BIG POWER PLAYER, and I know I should always STAY CLEAR. Even power bidders , stay clear of power bidder that is unless you want to stay up all night and pay $10,000 to prove something! Anyways, back to my excel sheet…. The players who I have played I mark with one of three colors: RED, ORANGE or GREEN. If they beat me, and beat me bad, I mark them red. If It was kind of a fight to the finish I mark them Orange. If it was an easy win, I mark them green. This way when I go to play again I go for the items that the players that are green on my sheet are playing on!

NOW! GO GET WINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the next couple days I will be introducing my SECOND BLOG CONTEST!

The winner of my 1st blog contest will announced once he gets his prize.

There is always talk with penny auctions as to when the best time to play is. Some say the middle of the night because there are less people playing, others say it doesn’t matter. Like always, I have my own opinion….

The truth of the matter is it does matter when you play. Because, the less people on the board playing the easier it is to win – duh. The question is, when are the least amount of people playing? I ‘m sure that there are not a lot of people playing in the middle of night. BUT ;  A) I’m not crazy enough to get online at 3:30 AM to test this out. And B) It’s the most logical to think that the middle of the night is the best time to win, so all the die-hard players are up at that time testing out this theory. If you’re a “die-hard” penny auction player then you tend to play harder and risk more money. Thus, your harder to beat!  My suggestion is if your tried – GO TO BED and stay there till the next day.  It’s simply not worth it to wake up in the middle of night.

In my experience the best times to play are, ironically, between the hours that everyone else is going to work – 6:00 AM and 8 / 9 AM.  Because let’s think about it – this is when most of the world is worried about other things and NOT thinking about penny auctions. The next best time is in the middle of the day between 2 and 4. The absolute worst times is on Sunday and Monday thur Friday 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Again, remember when I say “worst” I simply mean that this is when the board has the most people on it.

Also, it’s important to know your board. By this I mean the times I gave you will do you know good if the biggest power bidder on your board consistently plays when you play! So, make sure you keep track of those names who are beating you over and over again. On most auction sites it gives you the times a past auction was won. You should go throw the archives at your favorite auction site and see what time the best deals were won. Even better, some sites let you know who won these auctions. That you can watch these players and see if they won because they are a “power bidder” or if it is because they were playing when very few people were on the board.  On the site Bid Cactus.com,  for example , at the top of there home page it says, “Categories”. If you click on bidcatus gives you a list of completed auctions all organized by categories. Clicking on the different items will give you the TIME, DATE AND the winner BIDDER! All the information you need! With Quibids.com click on the drop down bar on the far right that says “Quibid’s live auctions” (I’ve highlighted in the picture below for you). Once you click a drop down menu will appear, Click on the choice that says, “Recently Completed “. Again, you Quibids gives you all the information you need to know! TIME, DATE AND the winner BIDDER!

How to win MORE Penny Auctions

Hi everyone! First off I should start off by saying that I am so super excited about this blog.I love penny auctions, and, frankly, I’m good at winning them. My goal is to teach you my techniques and to help everyone win more!

ok! Let’s get started. I guess if were going to talk about strategies we should start from the very, very beginning! Picking a user name. Before picking a username I recommend watching others play for a little while ( 5 minutes or more ). The longer you watch, the more you’ll learn. Use this time to figure out who’s winning what, and how they are winning. Notice there names. Notice how each name is bidding. Most people develop a certain bidding style. Most people don’t even think about there username, but you should! Just like in real life where first impressions are everything, it’s also true in the world of Penny Auctions! And your first impression is your username. Furthermore, with most sights once you pick a username your stuck with it. There are many techniques that I recommend for picking a username. You should pick the way that you feel comfortable with.

  • Pick an intimidating Username The reason this works is for one, it is noticeable, and second, people will think twice before bidding against you.  People will automatically wonder if your username IS a reflection on how you are going to play or not. Picking a name like , “Cuddles234” will do nothing for you. It’s forget able, and tells others you’re a whuss. However, a name like “YOU_WILL_LOOSE” or “KILLER_BIDDER” is remember able, and , well, kind of scary! Listen, in real life I am a whuss. I’m scared of lightning, my own shadow, and the dark! But I don’t fake it when doing penny auctions!
  • Pick a very odd Username – Picking a name like “LikesToPoop” makes you stand out in a crowd. A name like this will stick in everyone else’s head like glue. But be cautious, if you’re going to use a name that sticks out like a sore thumb be prepared an confident enough to build a reputation for yourself right off the start! The worse thing you can do for yourself if pick an unusual username and then have people remember you as, “The person who is really, really easy to beat.”!
  • Pick a Confusing Username The next two techniques are a little controversial in the world of penny auctions, but they work…. Picking a name like “BID CLOSED” , “BIDDING CLOSED” or “AUCTION DOWN “ can confused some in thinking that the bid IS actually not opened and thus, they don’t bid. When I first got started in penny auctions, other people with usernames like these always confused me and many times I really did think the bid was closed.
  • Pick a VERY similar Username to someone else – Again this technique does make some in the auction work a little upset. Some sites don’t allow you to even do this technique. The way it works is say there is a power bidder ( someone who wins lots of auctions, and seems to have an endless amount of bids ) with the user name of “Winner321” then you would pick the username of “Winnner321”. See the difference? I only added an extra ‘n’. Other auction players will now think you ARE that power bidder and won’t pick against you. Sneaky isn’t it?

One last thing, use this, or a variation of this username on EVERY auction site, blog or forum you use. That way people will know who you are from one site to another!

Ok! Now your ready to start winning! Check out my favorite auction sites ( right hand side bar ) and GET WINNING SOME GREAT STUFF at ridiculously low prices!
